My Favorite Sherwin Williams Black Paint Colors

Black paint has become a huge trend over the last couple of years. Personally, I think it’s a trend that’s here to stay for a while. Though it may sometimes seem harsh, black will always have a classic look to it that will never go out of style just like a little black dress. Picking the right shade of black before making the commitment to that statement wall or cabinet can be overwhelming though. Trying to find the right shade is something I have played with in my own home as well other projects and here are some of my favorites that I have used!

Tricorn Black

Tricorn black is a true shade of black that doesn’t have any undertones. This is the color we ended up using in our own home for our doors, kitchen, island, and bathroom vanities and I absolutely love it. It contrasts against the Pure White color of our walls so well and makes all of our gold hardware pop even more!

Black Magic

Black Magic is a soft shade of black that makes a space feel warm and cozy. We used Black Magic in the Transitional Remodel Kitchen to add a soft contrast to the off white paint color. It still has that pop but isn’t quite as sharp as the Tricorn Black.

Iron Ore

Iron Ore is more of a charcoal color that has a soft appearance similar to Black Magic. It has a milky look to it but still feels rich and cozy. We choose Iron Ore for the game room and study in the Transitional Remodel to achieve a moody vibe without going too dark.

One thing to note about Iron Ore, is that depending on the lighting in a space, it can sometimes appear navy. This is why it’s always a good idea to do a few paint samples in different areas of the room to pick the best paint color for you.

Testing Paint Colors

Sherwin Williams has a couple of different ways to help you test out paint colors with ease. They have small Color To Go paint samples that you can use to paint samples throughout the room for about $10 as well as Peel and Stick paint squares for about $4 that you can hold up or stick onto various walls.

Just remember, always test your paint colors before choosing your favorite option. Lighting is different and every space and you want to make sure you pick the best paint color for making a statement in your room!
