Our Small Laundry Room Layout

Trying to design a small laundry room, but don’t have a lot of space to work with? I got you. I don’t have the biggest laundry room either, but there are a couple of things we did to make this room more functional and maximize the storage space.

My favorite feature of this laundry room is the open white oak shelf! Not only is this a great design feature that captures your eye and adds warmth to the space, it’s also where I store my favorite laundry detergent by Buff City Soap, extra towels, little baskets, and decor pieces since we don’t have any countertop space. I love that the detergent has a designated space, but it’s also easy to grab when it’s time to start doing laundry.

Another feature of this laundry room I love are our large open shelves located behind the door. These shelves are actually large enough to store laundry baskets, various cleaning products, and honestly, all of the other random things that seem to end up in the laundry room. These shelves are also hidden behind the door so I don’t have to worry about styling them!

Note: Use these plans and elevations to help you determine if this layout could work for your space or alter it in a way that works for you! Always remember to measure and create a plan before starting your project.

In order to make this small space feel larger, we took our cabinets all the way to the ceiling. Not only do the cabinets draw your eye up, they also maximize the storage space available. Funny enough, we actually don’t really have much in these cabinets at the moment since they’re more difficult to get to, but you can never have enough storage space!

We also added a large window to the room which fills the space with natural light and makes it feel bright and airy. There’s really never a need to turn the lights on unless we’re in the laundry room at night.

Working with a small space can be frustrated, but there are almost always tricks you can use to make that space more efficient. If you are also designing or remodeling a small laundry room try creating open shelving areas for easy access, maximizing the cabinet space you have available, and add natural light if possible!
