Tips For Making A Space Feel Larger

During a remodel or even a new build it’s possible to find yourself in a situation in which a room just feels too cramped or too tight. When this happens use these tips to open up the room and make it feel larger.

1. Extend wall treatments or backsplashes to the ceiling

Wall treatments and backsplashes that reach the ceiling cause your eye to move upwards in a room, creating the illusion of more space.

2. Extend cabinets to the ceiling

Similar to wall treatments, cabinets that extend the ceiling in a room cause your eye to move upward. When there is space between a cabinet and the ceiling, your eye stops at the top of the cabinet, and a shadow is created in the gap causing the room to feel smaller.

3. Add open shelving

Open shelving creates space in an area that would normally feel tight and cramped. The blank space on a shelf gives your eye a break and creates a nice balance with all of the other objects in the room.

Whether you are beginning a remodel or designing a new space, try one of these tips to make your room feel larger!
