Must Haves For A Functional Laundry Room
Laundry rooms are often an after thought in the building process. What you might not realize is that you may not need the massive laundry rooms that appear on Pinterest. Think about what the needs of your family might be and create a laundry room that works well with those needs. Below are some tips to create a functional laundry room.
Elevated Washer and Dryer
Elevating your washer and dryer is not only easier on your back, but it also gives you the opportunity to place storage beneath them. In the laundry room from the Transitional Remodel project, we not only added a large drawer for storage, but also a second thin drawer above that can hold a basket.
2. Drying Rack
This laundry room features a drying rack that raises and lowers with a pulley system. I love that it’s not only cute and adds warmth to the space, but it’s also incredibly functional and utilizes the space well.
3. Easy Access To Detergent and Cleaners
Easy access to detergent is so important because it allows your laundry routine to move quickly. Personally, I love our open shelf above the washer in the Thompson Home because the detergent is within reach.
If you prefer not to see bottles and cleaners though, you can always place them in a cute container or in a drawer nearby.
4. Think About Your Needs
There are so many incredible things that can be put into a laundry room, but it’s also important to think about what you and your family need in the space. For example, in the Transitional Remodel, there used to be a sink that was no longer being used and taking up space, so we decided to remove it and add more countertop space.
Whatever your needs, think about what obstacles create inefficiency in your laundry room and make a plan from there. Remember, it’s not always about having the largest space but about using that space effectively!
