Kitchen Selections in the Thompson Home
Designing a kitchen can be one of the most overwhelming, but also exciting parts of designing a home. When we were designing the kitchen for our townhome, we knew we wanted a modern, open and organic space that felt warm and inviting.
One of the ways we achieved this look is through the color scheme. We went with Pure White by Sherwin Williams for the main cabinets and Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams for the island to provide some contrast. The black windows also add a nice pop of color to add contrast to the white backsplash. This black and white combination feels classic yet modern and is warmed up by the white oak flooring, floating shelves and brass hardware.
We used satin brass hardware by Emtek throughout the kitchen and it adds so much character. I love how modern yet elegant the pulls are and how the pop of brass really looks like jewelry in the kitchen. The kitchen faucet is satin gold by Newport Brass and has the same modern and elegant feel as the rest of the hardware.
Choosing the countertops was a challenge because our island is five feet by five feet. My original slab choice was not large enough for the island without a seem. My second was also too small. My third stone choice was large enough for the island and is quartz called Statuary Classique. Even though it wasn’t my first choice, I still love the way it turned it!
One of the things I love most about our kitchen is our backsplash which extends all the way to the ceiling! Since I wanted to keep the back wall of our kitchen really open we used this Artisan Frost Ceramic Tile from Floor and Decor to add texture and keep the wall from falling flat. The light also reflects off of the tile and brightens up the room.
Getting to the final point in the design took a lot of time and revisions, but I love the way it looks and I enjoy cooking in my kitchen!
